As you explore the history of the Acadians, don't miss the last surviving blockhouse in Nova Scotia and the oldest such original structure in North America. Between 1755 and 1762, Fort Edward served as the detention centre for the deportation of more than 1,000 Acadians. Although British troops stayed on at Fort Edward until the early 19th century, its strategic importance rapidly declined.
